Mountain views. Tree-lined streets. Cute shops. And some of my favorite Colorado restaurants. There are so many fun things to do in Old Colorado City and I definitely recommend spending time here if you’re in or near Colorado Springs!
The historic Old Colorado City doesn’t receive the LOVE it deserves!
OCC is a neighborhood within the city of Colorado Springs. It has a rich history and was founded during the Pikes Peak Gold Rush of 1859.
It’s quaint and offers a fun, homey feel that makes you want to stick around for hours.
This list of things below will not disappoint if you decide to visit OCC. From coffee shops and boutiques to bars and fine dining, you will get a little bit of everything in this (underrated) top Colorado destination!
LOCAL TIP: While Manitou Springs gets all of the attention, I’d argue that Old Colorado City is even better. Visit both, but you’ll find this area to be a calmer vibe that’s more charming and endearing. (And much, much better food.)
The Best Things to Do in Old Colorado City
Jives Coffee Lounge
Historically Hip
Start your day off right at Jives Coffee Lounge! This spot serves classic and unique coffee drinks, plus specialty sandwiches packed with fresh ingredients. Their cozy atmosphere is welcoming with random pieces of furniture and local art. And to top it off, there’s often live music to create the perfect ambiance.
Whether it’s a slow Sunday morning or a lively Saturday, the vibe will be just what you need. (Keep in mind, it’s likely going to be busy—stay patient; you won’t be disappointed.)
Old Colorado City Farmer’s Market
Fresh Goods
Take advantage of fresh fruits, vegetables, herbs, and baked goods at the Old Colorado City Farmers Market. This 20-year-long tradition runs June-October from 7 AM-1 PM every Saturday. The market is located at Bancroft Park and you’ll find full-time booths, as well as additional week-by-week vendors.
Old Colorado City Shopping
Specialty Shops & Boutiques
There are so many cute local shops here and one of the best things to do in Old Colorado City is find fun presents to buy others (and yourself!) Walk the blocks and find art galleries, gift shops, boutiques, and more. Here are a couple of my favorites:
- Stella and Beau: A friendly shop with beautiful products. Find something from a local artist!
- Eclectic OCC: Local, sustainable, and handmade. You’re going to want everything!
- All About Colorado: Gift shop for all your Colorado stuff and souvenirs.
Old Colorado City Bars & Restaurants
I love heading down to Old Colorado City on a Friday night and trying all of the fun bars and delicious restaurants. Here are my top spots to choose from:
The Alchemy
Irish Pub
The Alchemy has a cozy, no-frills vibe with both a rustic indoor area and a grubby (yet charming) outdoor space with mountain views. It’s the perfect place for apps & taps—order your favorite Irish beer or whiskey and do not skip the Rueben Rolls! Both are delicious ways to get your evening started.
Mother Muff’s
Sports Bar
Sunday Funday? This is where you need to be! Mother Muff’s is a great place to watch sports. While their front room is a little more laid back with (mostly) high tops and a bar, you can head back to where things get rowdier! There’s another bar plus TVs surrounding you—and if it’s a Saturday or Sunday in the fall or winter, TONS of sports fans.
Arrive early if you’re trying to watch your team. Find a beer from their extensive menu. Order from the (all-day) breakfast menu, or classic apps, pizza, and other bar food. Then, enjoy the music, meet new people, and have a blast! (Make sure to check out their specials, as well.)
Supernova Bar & Arcade
Arcade Bar
Need fun things to do for the whole family? Is it date night? Just need to get the party started? Whatever the occasion, stop in Supernova Bar & Arcade for some fun. Grab your drinks and get it crackin’ on the old-school games. While you’re at it, order classic bar food options like cheese curds, nachos, wings, and burgers. All the excitement combined with friendly bartenders might just have you here longer than you think!
Jake & Telly’s
Authentic Greek Restaurant
Do you want the truth? This is my favorite restaurant in all of Colorado. Yes, the entire state! Easily one of my top picks in the area, Jake & Telly’s is an authentic Greek restaurant with next-level food and a wonderful staff.
My #1 OLD COLORADO CITY recommendation.
Sit inside at a table or bar (you get a free shot of Ouzo when you sit at the latter) where you’re surrounded by an airy vibe and Greek paintings. Or, if it’s nice outside, take advantage of their outdoor patio with mountain views.
As far as food, you can’t go wrong, but a few of my go-to’s: Spanakópita and Dolmádes appetizers and The Gyro Plate or Chicken and Capers entrees. Note: the restaurant is higher-end, about $30/entree, but the portions are large, very shareable, and next-level delicious.
Pizzeria Rustica
Woodfired Pizza
Craving pizza? One of the best things to do in Old Colorado City is to enjoy some delicious woodfire pizza. Pizzeria Rustica is the perfect place for a date or a family gathering, and you won’t be disappointed with the pizzas or the atmosphere.
It’s a quaint, charming Italian-style restaurant. The ingredients are so fresh (and local.) They combine unique ingredients to make every bite delicious. And the homemade crust was my FAVORITE. And don’t forget to use the oils for dipping sauce—yum.
Rocky Mountain Chocolate Factory
the best chocolate
Rocky Mountain Chocolate Factory has some of the best premium chocolate you can find and your eyes will light up as soon as you walk in. You’re immediately greeted by the most impressive caramel apples with a thick coat and a variety of colorful toppings. Make your way through to find fudge, toffee, chocolate-covered pretzels, and cookies, plus so much more. Pick a few of your favorites and enjoy every bite!
No TRIP TO OCC is complete without Rocky Mountain Chocolate Factory.
P.S. If you’re a Reese’s fan, DO NOT skip the peanut butter chocolates. They’re THICK. And so delicious.
