The Best Things to Do at the New York-New York Las Vegas Hotel

Las Vegas hotels are NOT just your average places to stay on vacation! They are huge and packed with casinos, restaurants, shops, and experiences you’re not going to find at the Holiday Inn. And that goes for the hotel we’re covering today. The best things to do at the New York-New York Las Vegas Hotel & Casino make it stand out in a sea of fun places to stay!

An east coast-inspired hotel, you are welcomed by a 15-foot replica of the Statue of Liberty, the Empire State Building, and a long replica of the Brooklyn Bridge. Showing plenty of New York love, this hotel has been operating for over 20 years and many people come back again.

New York-New York Vegas is colorful and vibrant with high energy that gets you in Vegas mode as soon as you walk in!

Las Vegas Hotels are an entire EXPERIENCE!

Before we get into the best things to do at the New York-New York Las Vegas Hotel, let’s cover some details and common questions when picking which hotel to stay at in Sin City.

Where is the New York-New York Las Vegas Hotel & Casino?

The New York-New York Las Vegas Hotel is on Las Vegas Boulevard South, right on the Las Vegas Strip. It’s in a great location right in the heart of all of the action. It’s directly across from the MGM Grand and within walking distance of many other resorts and casinos.

Is the New York-New York Las Vegas Hotel & Casino Expensive?

This hotel runs right in the middle of the pack when it comes to the price of staying on the Strip. Of course, rates fluctuate throughout the year based on high season and low season and range from about $150-350 per night. Your cheapest option will be the double queen beds room vs a king bed.

NOTE: The daily resort fee is $37.00 ($41.95 inclusive of tax) which is a mandatory fee that is added to all room reservations. Eye roll.

TIP: Play the myVegas app game a couple of months before your trip—it’s free. You can earn enough points and cash in for free nights at NY NY Vegas. My husband and I were able to get two free (one from each app) which ended up being $250-300 saved!

Is the New York-New York Las Vegas Hotel & Casino Close to Other Places?

Yes! As mentioned, you are right in the heart of the Strip! The pedestrian bridges scattered throughout Las Vegas Blvd will get you to a number of hotels and casinos in minutes so you can feel free to explore outside of New York-New York—without a taxi or an Uber!

  • Excalibur Hotel: 5-minute walk.
  • Cirque du Soleil: 7-minute walk.
  • Park MGM: 7-minute walk.
  • Mandalay Bay: 20-minute walk.
  • The Bellagio: 20-minute walk.
  • Caesars Palace: 30-minute walk.

How Far is the New York-New York Las Vegas Hotel & Casino from the Airport?

McCarran International Airport is less than 3 miles from the New York-New York Las Vegas Hotel and only about an 8-12 minute drive. The location of the airport to the Strip is one of my favorite parts about traveling to Las Vegas. So convenient!

All right, you know all of the details as far as price and location of NY NY Vegas. Now, let’s get into the FUN. Here is everything to do, see, and eat when staying at (or just visiting!) this iconic Vegas hotel:

New York-New York Las Vegas Casino

A part of the MGM family, a more than 84,000 sq ft. casino floor means that whatever type of gambling you are looking for, you are likely going to find it at the New York-New York Las Vegas Casino. Blackjack, roulette, craps, poker, and more table games fill quickly with those testing their luck. If slots are more your style, find the luckiest one out of your 900 machine options!

Want to bet on the game? Head over to the NY NY Sportsbook where you will find live betting lines, a couple of rows of comfy chairs, and small TVs broadcasting a variety of games and horse races.

NOTE: This sportsbook is one of the smallest in the area and the TVs are not great. I highly recommend Circa or Westgate if your main purpose in Vegas is sports gambling! (If you want to stick around, Tom’s Urban, more below, is your best bet for watching the game.)

TIP: Make sure to get MGM Players Card so you are working towards points and rewards. You can do this right on-site.

The Outdoor Pool

You are likely hoping for a little pool time during your trip to Las Vegas. The New York-New York Las Vegas Hotel pool may not be as extravagant as some, but it’s tough to beat any pool on a hot day. There are plenty of chairs surrounding the water, including inside the pool loungers, to keep you wet and cool on those dry desert days. You can also rent cabanas and cushioned chairs.

On cooler days, you will find the hot tubs to be a popular spot! The pool is open from 10 AM-6 PM and is first come first serve unless you have reserved a lounger or cabana for the day.

Restaurants & Bars

One of the best things about the New York-New York Las Vegas Hotel is the variety of restaurants and bars to choose from! Whether you need a big, healthy breakfast, a delicious dinner post-too many drinks, or a place to keep the party going, you will find it.

Toms Urban

Tom’s Urban

Breakfast? Brunch? Tom’s Urban is a great way to start the day! It’s a huge sports bar with endless TVs in a modern environment and a large center bar. Their morning menu includes Tom’s Breakfast Platter (get sausage!) and The Beach Bum Omelet which will both bring you back to life after a night in Vegas! And if that doesn’t do the trick, hop right back on the wagon with their daily $23 bottomless mimosas until 2 PM!

Chin Chin Sushi

How good is this place? We went twice—and I never go to the same restaurant twice on vacation! But Chin Chin Sushi sucked us right in with its delicious food and casual atmosphere. It’s the perfect place to come for a late-night dinner after too much time in the casino!

If you love sushi, the Caterpillar Roll and the Japanese Lasagna Roll are straight FIRE. And their chicken entrees are *chef’s kiss* as well. (If you love potstickers, skip them.)

More Restaurants & Bars in New York-New York Las Vegas Hotel

Nine Fine Irishmen is an authentic Irish pub—stop in for a few pints and Fish & Chips. The Beerhaus is a casual beer hall with classic American eats. America is a 24-hour restaurant where you can grab a burger, mac & cheese, or your standard breakfast.

Greenwich Village

One of New York-New York Las Vegas Hotel’s coolest offerings is the brownstone, tree-lined Greenwich Village which is a replica of the New York City neighborhood. The details are immaculate and it feels as if you’ve really been transported to NYC! Make sure to explore, take some pictures, and find some food at a few of the Village Street Eateries that are open daily.

Greenwich Village Bakery

One of my favorite morning stops! While one of my biggest pet peeves about Las Vegas is the lack of coffee pots in the room, it at least gives me an excuse to come to Greenwich Village Bakery. Offering coffee drinks and a mouth-watering display of pastries, it’s tough to start your morning better. Find a small table in the dining area or take it back to your room to enjoy in bed.

TIP: An Americano with a warmed-up croissant is the way to go!

Sirrico’s Pizza

Late night pizza by the slice? And a fairly cheap price? Yep, it’s the perfect move after too much fun in Vegas! There’s a variety of New York-style slices as well as Detroit-style. Do note that this place will have a pretty long line for dinner and beyond, but it moves quickly and is worth it!

Another option? Head upstairs to New York Pizzeria where you can get even cheaper pizza by the slice.

Bar at Times Square

Ready to belt out your favorite tunes? Head to the Bar at Times Square, a fun piano bar that’s full of good times. Thursday-Saturday they are partying until 3 A.M. (2 A.M. on the other nights) so be careful; you might be at this place into the morning!

PRO TIP: Grab a seat on the outer edge at one of the video poker games where you can throw a couple of bucks in and get some drinks on the house!

More Food Options in Greenwich Village

Broadway Burger Bar is a super casual space where you can get a gourmet burger—don’t forget a milkshake! Gonzalez y Gonzalez offers delicious Mexican food and tons of authentic tequila. Nathan’s Hot Dogs is a New York classic with top-notch hotdogs. Greenberg’s Deli for a good sandwich. 48th and Crepe offers sweet and savory crepes for a trendy New York breakfast.

Big Apple Coaster

Looking for a thrill? Make sure to give the roller coaster at the New York-New York hotel a spin. Spins, loops, massive drops, and great views are included—if you don’t have your eyes shut! Individual tickets are roughly $20 depending on the day and time but there are package passes that include other rides and games, including credits at the arcade.

Big Apple Arcade

Did you bring the kids? Or maybe you’re a big kid yourself! The whole family will love spending some time in the Big Apple Arcade. Games, both new and old, cover the space and you’ll have a blast! And yes, of course, you can win a variety of prizes with your winnings.

Hershey’s Chocolate World

An entire store dedicated to chocolate? Stop in to peruse all of the candy and merch and choose your favorite chocolate bar.

NOTE: There are a variety of stores and souvenir shops in this area if you want to spend some time shopping.

Enjoy the Hotel Room

Room service anyone? How about a little time relaxing and enjoying some breakfast in bed? We stayed here while I was pregnant so I found myself in the room more than on a normal trip.

And I loved our room! It was clean, had unique New York-inspired decor, and very comfy beds. With a variety of rooms to choose from, we went with the cheapest option and it was more than sufficient for our needs. Basic, but overall a fabulous place to stay.

New York – New York Hotel

You will have a GREAT time at the New York New York Hotel if you decide to stay. It’s the perfect place to enjoy the Las Vegas Strip without paying The Bellagio or Aria prices. Enjoy the delicious food, New York vibes, pool, and casino—GOOD LUCK! 🙂
